SPECTO Athletics® project aims to enrich the sports experience to different audiences by offering real time and post-event performance data to athletes, coaches, fans, researchers or sports associations. The data can be utilized in many ways, for example, it helps training and sports research centers, athletes and coaches to improve athletic performance and reduce injuries. In addition, it helps TV companies to liven up their broadcasts. Most importantly, SPECTO Athletics App offers fans details of their favorite athletes’ performance. By using SPECTO Athletics the fan can get new insights of the competition and the requirements which make a champion to be the best. Who of us wouldn’t like to know the secrets of peak performances?

The project focuses on multiple disciplines:

• horizontal jumps: triple jump and long jump

• vertical jumps: high jump and pole vault

• short distance runs: sprint and hurdles

• throw sports: shotput, hammer, discus and javelin

In these disciplines we measure either release angles, speeds, steps and distances. Combining these measurements, we'll get interesting data and insights of the performance. For example, in triple jump we measure athlete’s maximum speed and the position of it, distance to board and distances of hop, step and jump. In pole vault we measure for example athlete’s runway velocity and bar clearance, and in shotput release angle and release velocity. Our technology is based on contactless measurements. We use multiple different LiDAR based sensors and/or depth mappers to reach accurate results.
